Hey, all.  I just worked with a fellow CCA member to help him make his images better for viewing.  I know it may seem basic to some of you, but not everyone knows how to modify images they have, particularly if they use a full page scanner.  Posting nice, zoomed-in pics of your collectibles will make them more appealing (if selling) and enjoyable to view, so for those who don't know how to edit images to get rid of the extra white space, here's a VERY basic overview of the process.  This is aimed at those who use scanners as those who take pics with their cameras probably know to hold the camera close to the subject and/or pinch-zoom to bring the subject into the full frame.

1. Scan image - If your scanner has settings to automatically remove whitespace, you may not need to go further.
2. Open scanned image into a photo editor.  Microsoft may default to "Photos" or "Paint" or you may have overridden the default to use a different program.  The default on a Mac is usually "Apple Photos" or "Preview".
3. Use the select tool (usually shown as a dashed rectangle) to make a square/rectangle around your object.  If you want to get fancy, you can use the lasso tool to get closer to the edges.
4. Use the "crop" tool to throw away everything outside the selected area.
5. Save the resulting image.  Use "Save As" if you want to keep the original image.  Otherwise, "Save" will overwrite your original with the new edited one.

The CCA website has more great tips and tricks on making photos perfect for including as submissions to the Chip Guide.

Jump to 25:20 if you already have your image and want to edit it.  Charles (the presenter in the video) does a fantastic job of going through a LOT of different techniques to align, color correct, and do many other things to make your scans come out fantastic.
