The Club Forum board and a question

Is the reason that there is so few posts here because everyone is "used to" the antiquated and unsecure platform of the chip board?

While I do like the clean modern look of this forum and understand that it may have been a free use platform I just feel like the club uses the chip board, a platform that is outdated and insecure in its form to relay much of it's official communications.

I also see many using facebook groups with its many distractions and advertisements to which I believe is also NOT a good place as who wants the members distracted from a topic specific forum.  Also FaceBook is the moderator of all things there and if you catch a break from them your restricted from ALL AREAS of facebook.

I would hope that the club continues a dedicated forum of its own and in the clubs control versus an outside owner of a platform. It makes sense.

At PokerChipper I use the Xenforo platform and it is chock full of features and low priced add on features that could benefit the club in many ways.  I know a common complaint from some of the more senior members is that it is difficult to use but if I can use it it must not be that hard, I think its boils down to resisting any change.  I believe we need a modern, clean look to attract new members and an active forum would be a definite club member benefit.

I'd be willing to help look into this or help in any other way.   Sometimes change is good.

The Chp board hasn't had recent developments in over a decade.  i guess thats why it has no browsing security.

I asked the chat........... This platform is better for sure
Tetra-WebBBS is generally considered outdated today. Here's why:

🕰 Age and lack of recent development

The most widely referenced versions of Tetra-WebBBS go back many years (e.g., version 6.21 mentioned by users) and there's little evidence of ongoing modern development or active releases in the past decade.

Listings for it on script directories show dates from the 2000s era, which strongly suggests it hasn't kept pace with newer forum software.

📉 Compared to modern forum platforms

Modern forum software (like phpBB, Discourse, Flarum, XenForo, etc.) receives frequent updates, security patches, plugin ecosystems, and ongoing community support — none of which are evident for Tetra-WebBBS. For many admins today, that makes Tetra less suitable for production use.

⚠️ Security & compatibility concerns

Because it's not actively maintained, software that old:

Is unlikely to have recent security updates

May not run cleanly on current versions of PHP or modern web servers

Lacks integration with modern authentication, spam prevention, and responsive design

🧠 Summary

So in practical terms:
✔ It *works as a basic BBS/forum engine from the early web era.†
✖ But it's outdated by modern web standards and isn't recommended for new communities unless you have a specific retro or legacy reason to use it.

Dan, did you see Spragg's "Important Forum Changes" post on the ChipBoard on Sept 21 -- link here:

Looks like he has chosen xenforo, one of the ones you mention above.

It appears he intends to update it soon. In fairness, he's had his hands full with selling CPC, being the new Convention co-chair and other stuff.

I missed that!   Well that's cool, I had PokerChipper.com up in a day, but I get it.

I suppose it's a revenue stream so good on him.   PCF is a revenue stream also.  Chipper is for the hobby from the heart.    Not jabbing just sayin.  Maybe when he pulls the trigger it will bring folks to the other 2 since they'll know how to use it!

It may also bring folks here to the official club boards as it is very similar.
