The following is an excerpt from the 2023 business meeting.  The entire meeting is quite interesting including ignoring a prime directive of our club attached.

Do we really wonder why questions are asked? or do we just call questions we don't like inflammatory.

I encourage everyone to step forward in the years to come and seek office.  I know some of us will.

ARTICLE THREE: PURPOSE
A) The purposes of this organization are to promote a closer relationship and good will among the members of the Club, to encourage the study of gaming chips and tokens by the acquisition and study of all types of gaming exonumia, to assist new collectors and to encourage others in the study of gaming exonumia, to protect the integrity of the hobby and to maintain close liaison with other historical and numismatic associations.

Membership growth is actively being worked on. Some of it has already been reported on by the committee and more is coming. Don't ask for more details from me than have already been published. We're working as quickly and expediently as we can, holding regular meeting, sharing intermediary progress among ourselves, and sharing substantive progress as things move forward. I know I'm asking a lot because it's been said before, but please stand by for the next report.

So then the Video of the meeting where the membership officer was asked directly if there were plans to increase membership or even any effort was incorrect??   (I hope that's the case)  I usually take what I see before my eyes as what's really happening!

And Yes, there's always a lot of talk, committees formed and very shortly thereafter kaputski with no consequences or further action.  Just a follow up of "Oh we tried that and it didn't work so were done"

That video was (presumably) from last June. The current committee has been in existence only a short while. Again, I beg your indulgence. More to come. By the way, I'm not the committee chair. I'm just trying to keep him from quitting should he reply and it get taken the wrong way or whatever and the hordes descend upon him.

The hoards should be ignored when they misbehave.   Questions are one thing. insults and threats are another.  It seems in our club they have the same consequence..........

None......

Thanks for the info   I really hope there's progress.    I'll help with anything if asked, but someone would have to ask.

I have no doubt this was true in the past. Often (implicitly temporary) committees were formed with a specific purpose, they ran their course and were closed out. With varying degrees of success.

For the Membership Growth and Engagement committee, the very FIRST recommendation we had was to make our committee (and several other committees) ongoing, which was approved by the BoD.

That gives us a foundation on which to build. We also proposed a bunch of other things that were approved. All of that is detailed on Doug's post here.

Now what progress have we made? It's all detailed here.

I can assure you, we aren't going anywhere. We have a TON of work ahead of us, we have a deliberate pace to our progress (remember: we are all volunteers doing this between other life commitments like family and job) But we HAVE had progress, and we WILL continue to have progress.

Now put yourself in the shoes of volunteers on this committee and in other positions: when you have people constantly beating the drum of "nothing is happening, there is no progress, whatever the committees are doing doesn't make a difference, YOU are part of the problem", what do you think that does?

Do you think it makes people want to volunteer to help? Does it make committee members want to dedicate even more of their personal time for a seemingly ungrateful membership?

You mention "I encourage everyone to step forward in the years to come and seek office."   - well let's look at the last nomination process detailed here.

Only one person wanted to be Treasurer, only one person wanted to be Membership Director.

Only one person each wanted to be the one and two year term Members at Large. Those positions roles aren't even defined. Imagine: people who are in these positions could make them into anything they want to improve the club. All of the loudmouths complaining and whining on the CB about this and that could have put their hand up and said "I have ideas on how to make things better, I am willing to make them happen"

And yet none of them did.

You say "I know some of us will."  I hope EVERYONE will, that's what the club needs, people interested in improving the club and willing to invest their own time in doing it.  All the while some people will publicly accuse you of being "scum of the earth" (direct quote from the CB)

You mention " I'll help with anything if asked, but someone would have to ask." - OK, I am asking: our most urgent need is help with the club magazine. Please look at the newsletter here and if it looks like it something you can help with, please reach out to Steve Miller.

I LOVE it! That was a great video. And so much more could be added to it or more made like it. Well done.
